Hey y'all!!
Well
this week has been an interesting one at that. Things kind of started
to slow down, but it is okay, because Sister Porter and I get to spend
another transfer together in good ol Bonifay!! I am pretty excited
about that! We are going to see this place flourish! I just know it. I
am excited to see what these next 6 weeks have in store!
MONDAY:
Mondays are always great! I wake up in the morning, and get all
excited because i get to email my friends and family!! This last week
after emailing, we drove to Chipley and went to an alligator farm! It
was pretty intense. There are about 60 that live there, but since it
was a colder day, we only saw about three of them surface. We heard
some crazy stories about these alligators! We also had dinner with
Brother and Sister Driscoll. They are such great people! Sister
Driscoll is in the Relief Society Presidency. They are just so willing
to help us out with anything we need as missionaries. I absolutely love
it! We also went and saw a less active family that is just so cute!
Our return appointment fell through, but i know that we will be able to
set up another time to see them! Its gonna be great!
TUESDAY: Tuesday
was AWESOME!!! We had zone training in Lynn Haven. It was centered
more on discussions, rather than a set lesson. I think that allowed the
spirit to really direct the meeting. The STL's asked me to share an
experience that i will share with y'all towards the end of my email :)
They asked me to share a moment when i have "come to myself". That was
a bit scary, sharing such an experience with all these missionaries
that i don't even know haha. But the Sprit helped me out for sure :)
We discussed out how the spirit plays such a large roll in missionary
work. As missionaries, we are only able to bring the spirit unto the
investigator, the investigator is the one that has to allow the spirit
into their heart. Our roll as missionaries, we just have to strive to
be worthy of that spirit in everything we do. The Zone Leaders talked
about Divine Discontent. This divine discontent motivates us to repent
daily, and to change into the person that we were destined to become.
We discussed how we should be striving to remove the "dross" from our
lives. Zone training was definitely one of the highlights of the week.
I am just so grateful for the gospel. I am so grateful that we are all
given the chance to change ourselves through the gospel.
WEDNESDAY:
We sorted some pizza again! Good times! The thrift store is one great
place!! We later had a really good lesson with Liz. I am just so
grateful for the spirit that helps guide our lessons. She is just
progressing right along.. She just needs to come to church. We visited
with Liz's mom who is a recent convert. Lets just say that it is hard
to teach a lesson when she is chewing on her snuff and spitting it into a
can while we are teaching haha. I am definitely in the south lol We
also had a good lesson with Ariel. We were able to talk and teach about
the Atonement. We committed her to pray to know what Heavenly Father
has planned for her. I think she will have a really neat experience.
THURSDAY: Oh goodness..... Thursday
was a long day. We had apartment checks haha good thing we took time
to clean the apartment!! :) Those roaches are just so nasty. YIKES! We
weekly planned. Planning always takes a long while. But Proper
planning prevents poor performance haha so it is totally worth it. We
also had three dinner appointments that night. It was pretty intense. I
just ate a tiny bit at each one. But we are definitely not starving
here in Bonifay. I have decided that i need to learn how to make banana
pudding.... because it is just the best thing in the entire world!! :)
FRIDAY: Friday
just seemed to last forever. It was just an off day for both sister
porter and i. Im just glad that we have each other to lean on when we
have days like that. We had a cool experience though. In comp study,
we roleplayed an OYM. Well long story short, when we went to the thrift
store the roleplay came to life! It was pretty cool! haha the power of
roleplaying is so real! We later saw a less active who is bed ridden.
I just about got eaten by a roach.... bugs in florida are not my
friends. We had a last chance lesson with one of our investigators that
is just not progressing. That was really hard, it almost felt like we
were breaking up with her haha. but it went really well. We were guided
by the spirit the entire time.
SATURDAY: Saturday
was all sorts of interesting. I got some pretty specific revelation
for my life. All i will say is that i am just so grateful for the power
of prayer and the scriptures. I have been doing this thirty day
challenge where you thank heavenly father for the scriptures, then ask
him a question. Then you flip open to a random spot in the scriptures
and read until you find your answer. I have gotten an answer that has
been so specific to my needs ever day that i have done it. It is truly
amazing to see how i can talk to heavenly father through prayer, and he
will talk to me through the scriptures. When i received my answer
today, i was just so comforted by the fact that we have a savior.
D&C 68:6 "Wherefore be of good cheer and do not fear. For I the
Lord am with you and will stand by you and ye shall bear record of me,
even Jesus Christ, that I am the Son of the living God, that I was, that
i am, and that i am to come." That scripture just brought me so much
peace. I am learning that Jesus Christ knows us all, and he is there
for us, just as long as we are willing to allow him to ask for his help.
SUNDAY:
Today, it was almost like church was just for sister porter and I. We
were both just touched so much by the spirit. We learned a lot about
Charity and how we need to act when we face adversity. It was just what
we needed to hear. Sadly, none of our investigators attended church
today. That means that we are going to have to move back Liz's baptism
date. We were really bummed about that. We had dinner with Brother and
Sister Evans. I absolutely love them! Their daughter is serving a
mission in utah, and actually served in price. So i got to meet her
before i came out on her mission. Now i am serving in her home ward
haha its such a small world. Sunday
we experienced how we can always show love towards others. People were
just being strangely rude to us yesterday. But we were able to do our
best in helping them feel the spirit. It was a neat day. We also
found out that we are not being transferred. So that was exciting news.
The past couple weeks have really been the
changing point in my mission and all together in my life. I have really
come to myself. I am now able to see myself the way that Heavenly
Father sees me. That has just brought so much joy into my life. I have
been learning how i receive revelation for myself. That has really
helped me to rely and place all my trust in Heavenly Father and Jesus
Christ. Jesus Christ is becoming my greatest friend. I know that he is
there for us. All we have to do is reach out our hands. He has
suffered not only for our sins, but for our weaknesses, and our pains
and afflictions. It has been so great to draw closer to the savior. I
am loving every moment, and loving the person that my mission is
shaping me into. It is only happening because i am placing all of my
trust in the lord and his plan for me.
I hope y'all have a very blessed week! Know that the savior knows and loves you! He is just waiting to hear from you. :)
If you want to know who you are to him, take on this 30 day challenge. It will change your life!
Love,
Sister Melissa Wood
