Week #37

Hey Y'all!  Hope all is going well.  Things are just peachy here

in Bonifay in the FTM!  Have I mentioned that being a missionary is the absolute best?!  haha
This week was filled with sweet spiritual moments, along with moments of self relfection and exciting adventure with my dearest companion Sister Porter!
MONDAY:  Monday was a great P-day.  We were able to go to Falling Waters State Park in the neighboring town of Chipley.  It was awesome.  Its so great to see the beauty of the earth everywhere we go.  God shows us his love in so many different ways, and beautiful nature is one of them.  Sister Porter and I had such a great time on our p day.  I just love her haha she is the bomb!

TUESDAY:  Tuesday we had our beloved district meeting as usual.  After District meeting we carpooled with the Greenhead Sisters to Lyn Haven for interviews with President Smith.  I always enjoy seeing and visiting with President and Sister Smith!  They are such great example to me of love and diligence in the Lord's work.  We also got to see a picture of our new mission president that will be coming into the mission in July.  They are also a President and Sister Smith.  Haha its a small world after all :)
My interview with Pres. Smith went really well.  I was able to share with him my feelings of how much I love the mission, and especially the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
We had a great lesson with an investigator, Jeanette.  She is a stubborn southern woman, but the spirit will continue to work on her and soften her heart.  She has a lot of concerns that are keeping her from really progressing, but we are determined to resolve those concerns and get her to church :)

WEDNESDAY: Wednesday's we volunteer at the local thrift store.  That is always so much fun.  We sort fifty pounds of pizza into smaller bags that go to people that are in need of food in the area.  We had another great lesson with another great investigator.  Ariel has three little ones that are just the cutest!  She also has a 1 year old pittbull that is just a handful.  He just wants to play with us, but cannot be controlled.  So the lesson went well along with trying not to get eaten by a large puppy haha.

THURSDAY: Thursdays we go and serve Ice Cream at the nursing and rehab center here in Bonifay.  The people there are just so sweet.. and the ice cream is too!  Blue bunny Ice cream is the best!  Some members dropped off some dinner to us.  The ward here really does take such good care of their missionaries.  I am definitely not starving haha.  We had another great lesson with Ariel about the Plan of Salvation.  She really enjoyed that.  The gospel is great.  She gave the Large puppy some melatonin but that didnt even phase him haha  Missionary work is always an adventure!

FRIDAY:  Friday we volunteered at the thrift store again.  That is always fun to see the crazy things people get rid of.  The south is one crazy place!  :)  We had an awesome member present lesson with our investigator, Liz.  She is progressing really well.  She loves to read the Book of Mormon, and has really been feeling the Spirit in her life.  We are really excited for Feb. 27th.  We also saw some less active members in the ward.  That is always great to meet new people and see how the gospel can bless them.

SATURDAY:  Saturday just snuck up on us!  This week just flew right on by.  We had a great lesson on fasting with a less active member.  Sister porter took one for the team and got nipped in the ankle by one of the 10 chihuahua's in the house.  That brave soul.  She took it like a champ!  We had another great lesson with a new investigator, Vera.  She had a lot of questions about the church, so we shared the message of the Restoration with her.  She really enjoyed that, and has committed to read the Book of Mormon.  We will be seeing her later on this week! :)  The Lord truly does bless us with prepared people!
The most interesting lesson we had though was with a couple of new investigators.  They pretty much openly told us that they both struggle with drug use.  They huff spray paint of all things... we could definitely smell it... so we got out of there as soon as we had the chance.   The Lord protects his Missionaries, thats all i can say haha.

SUNDAY:  Sunday was great as always.  Everyday seems like a sunday in the life of a missionary, but the Spirit of the Sabbath is so special.  I love attending church meetings.  Especially the Sacrament.  I have learned to love the Sacrament so much.  It is such a blessing that we have the opportunity to partake of the sacrament and renew our covenants with our father in heaven.  I can see why the general authorities of the church have been placing such an emphasis on the sabbath day.  It is such a special day where we can take the time to reflect upon the things that we can improve on.  The Gospel of Jesus Christ is a Gospel of steady improvement.  It makes bad men good, good men better, and better men perfect.

This week I have learned a lot about the importance and beauty of Repentance.  Repentance is mostly associated with feelings of shame and negativity.  At least thats how it was for me.  But this week I have come to know that repentance is such a blessing.  It is so Beautiful.  It is one of the many ways that our Heavenly Father shows his love to us.  But it is through Jesus Christ that Repentance is possible.  Without the Atonement of Christ, we would not be able to be forgiven for our shortcomings.  The Atonement of Christ is infinite and eternal.

Alma 7:11-13

11 And he shall go forth, suffering pains and afflictions and temptations of every kind; and this that the word might be fulfilled which saith he will take upon him the pains and the sicknesses of his people.
12 And he will take upon him death, that he may loose the bands of death which bind his people; and he will take upon him their infirmities, that his bowels may be filled with mercy, according to the flesh, that he may know according to the flesh how to succor his people according to their infirmities.
13 Now the Spirit knoweth all things; nevertheless the Son of God suffereth according to the flesh that he might take upon him the sins of his people, that he might blot out their transgressions according to the power of his deliverance; and now behold, this is the testimony which is in me.

I know that The Gospel of Jesus Christ is true.  I know that it is only through Jesus Christ that we can be saved.  The Savior is real.  He Lives.  He knows each of us personally. His arms are extend to us and beckon us to come unto him.
I hope y'all have a blessed week and take time to contemplate the Atoning sacrifice of the Savior and how it can bless our lives.
