Hey y'all!
This week has been pretty bloomin' awesome! Yes, i picked up a new southern word :) Any-who.. this week was full of adventure, spirit, and blessings.
MONDAY
was pretty great. Sister Porter found out that we are allowed to play
Phase 10 on P-days, so we had a pretty intense round. She thinks she
won, but we weren't keeping score. I secretly was in my head, and i
totally won haha but I will let her think she is all that and a bag of
chips :) Pdays are usually pretty chill. We had dinner at a less
active family's home. The Benton's are just the best!
TUESDAY
was great! We had a very spiritual and edifying District Meeting. I
love when I come away from district meeting feeling inspired, and
motivated to do better. We saw a less active sister that lives in the
nursing home where we serve ice cream. She is such a sweet lady. It
just makes me so sad to see elderly people whose family pretty much
abandons them. We had a great lesson with Liz! We taught the famous
Law of Chastity and Eternal Marriage. She really enjoyed it. Liz has
committed to stop drinking coffee by the 15 of March and is doing so well! She is just awesome!
We
had another great lesson on the Plan of Salvation with Lauren Morris.
Her husband is a less active member, and they are expecting their first
baby in July. She wants to raise her family in the church and has the
desire to be baptized. What was great about this lesson, though, was
that we had it at a member's home. It was great to see the members get
excited to answer questions that Lauren had and share their sweet
testimonies with her. The spirit definitely guided that lesson. We are
planning to meet with Lauren again tomorrow.
We were also able to see Ariel! We were finally able to bring up the b word... BAPTISM! haha
She has been thinking about it, and wants to be baptized so she can
feel the spirit. There are still some things that are holding her back,
but as she continues to rely on the lord and search for that spirit,
she will be able to make those sacred covenants with our father in
heaven.
WEDNESDAY we
had a great lesson with a less active brother, Steve. Sister Cosson,
who is like the greatest ward missionary of all time, came with us. We
talked about repentance and how it can be a joyful experience. We also
met up with a less active sister who was needing some help with her yard
work, so we were able to set up a time to come back and help her with
that. She has a beautiful old victorian home! If you know me... you
know that i love beautiful old houses and antiques. So i am as happy as
can be! We also visited with another less active sister, Joyce. We
shared the conference talk " Your Next Step" by Randall K Bennett of the
Seventy with her. I absolutely love that talk. "Your loving Heavenly
Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, invite you to take your next step
toward Them. Don’t wait. Take it now." I encourage y'all to take the
time to read that! :)
THURSDAY is
weekly planning day. We plan for what seems like forever! But hey,
proper planning prevents poor performance! We served ice cream at the
nursing home! That is always an adventure. We then had an awesome
member present lesson with Liz. We talked about Tithing, and Fasting.
The spirit was just so strong. Liz has committed to be Baptized on March 26th!
We are so excited for her! What is even cooler is that she will be
confirmed on Easter! That will be such a special day for her!
FRIDAY was
kind of an off day for us. We were out trying to see people, but
things just didn't seem to go as planned. But that is okay. We know
that the Lord asks us to do hard things and put forth effort. He is
just helping us to gain his trust. I think both sister Porter and I
were able to realize that we can do better at relying wholly on the
Lord. We were able to volunteer at the thrift store where i found a
really neat picture of Christ. Because we volunteer, we get free things
sometimes, so i got to bring home the picture of Christ!
SATURDAY
was a fun filled day. We went to brother and sister Kelly's house to
help them with clearing some land so they can put a trailer in for their
daughter. That is always fun to spend time with the Kelly's. We also
helped Tammy, a less active sister, with packing up some things in
preparation for a move. We later had dinner with Tammy. We watched the
20 minute restoration video with her and discussed the need for a
restoration. Tammy is making so many great changes in her life! She
has quit smoking, and on saturday, she dumped all her BOOS down the drain so she wouldn't be tempted drink them. She is just so awesome!
SUNDAY
was wonderful. It was fast and testimony meeting. Those are my
favorite. I love to hear the precious testimonies of the members in the
bonifay ward. There are some primary children that bear the most
beautiful testimonies and touches my heart every time i hear them.
Ariel, Liz, Mikayla, Tammy and a couple other less active members were
all present for that spirit filled meeting. After church, we had a
great lesson on fasting, tithing, and Sabbath Day observance with our
other investigator, Mikayla. She is so anxious and eager to learn.
What is even greater is that she had committed to be Baptized on March 20! She is well on her way. She has her family and friends supporting her every step of the way. Sunday
evening, we were able to see the Benton family again. We discussed the
Plan of Salvation with them. Mike is working on becoming worthy to
receive the Melchizedek Priesthood so they can be sealed as a family.
They will both have to work hard and start attending church, but the
desire is there. Our direction is far more important than our speed.
So they are well on their way.
I
am just loving every minute of my mission. Yes, at times it is hard
and can be discouraging. But what brings the most comfort and happiness
is to know that this is the Lord's work. We are on His errand. I
want to share with y'all my testimony. I know with all my heart that
the gospel of Jesus Christ is true. It is a perfect plan for each of us
to follow, and as we do, we will be prepared to return to our Heavenly
Father and have Eternal life. I know that Christ lives. He is there.
He knows how to help us. He is the only person that knows exactly how
we feel or what we are going through. It is through Jesus Christ that
we are able to participate in the blessing of Repentance. I love
attending church and partaking of the sacrament. That is such a sacred
time that we must prepare for each week. It is a time set aside for us
to think of the savior and renew our covenants with our father in
heaven. I know that Joseph Smith truly did see God the Father and His
Son. It is through Joseph Smith that Christ was able to restore the
fullness of his gospel on the earth. I know that the Book of Mormon is
true. I know that we can come to know that Jesus is the Christ as we
study, ponder, and pray about the book. I am so grateful that Heavenly
father shows us his love through living prophets and apostles who are
led by our living savior.
Have a Blessed week!
Sister Melissa Jean Wood
